Are these shots confirmed?

The reason I ask is because I live right there, was arriving home around this time and the area did not seem to be the scene of a shooting.

There were kids around with gang affiliations, but not the police presence that would follow a shooting.

Damn, and I have thought of moving North...I think I stay where it's just rowdy gay people and drama queens having relationship troubles at 3am...

Slightly off topic . . . How can we confirm shots fired? I called to report them a couple weeks ago (sounded like they were coming from Hazel and Sunnyside), but was never able to confirm whether or not it was just "firecrackers". I checked on the Sun Times 24/7 crime page and this site, but never saw anything about a shooting. So, again, my question is how do I get follow-up information on shots fired?

We should contact the investigative hotline numbers of the local news networks to get some media attention about the police refusing to make arrests with eyewitness identification of gangbangers engaging in a shoot out at 3:30 in the afternoon on Wilson. That is absolutely offensive and frightening.

I just noted the Fox News Chicago Investigative Tip Line number - 312.565.8076. If they get enough calls, I would imagine they would be keen to investigate. I am going to call right now.

We all just need to keep calling 911. Get chatty w/ the police officers that frequent Uptown. They'll update you.

I just called 911... crack smokers walking down Kenmore. Nice...

These were fireworks. I live across the street and I saw the kids shooting off the fireworks.

You need to know the law. It doesn't matter if you saw a gangbanger shoot at someone. You are not the victim. If a gangbanger doesn't have a gun on him then he's free to go. Let's say he doesn't have a gun on him but he shoots someone in the leg. If that someone doesn't want to press charges, the gangbanger is again free to go. You as a witness are useless in an arrest situation if the victim doesn't want to press charges or no weapon is found on gangbanger.

you're not entirely correct there. while the state's attorneys do not like reluctant witnesses, our criminal justice system prosecutes for crimes against the community. it's up to the state's attorneys to file charges, not the victims. and they have subpoena power to get a victim in. i've seen reluctant victims in the courtrooms day after day.

TO ANONYMOUS: Meghan is correct. I am an attorney, but anyone who does a little research on the state and city's laws knows that what you stated about "knowing the law" is incorrect. Gun use by anyone other than a public official with legal rights to handle weapons is illegal. Reckless disregard for the safety of citizens is illegal.......... There were several other witnesses willing to testify against this individual regarding those crimes. It has nothing to do with the guy who was shot.
