Town Hall: Town Hall refers to the 23rd Police District.
Public Violence Mission: From what I gather, it sounds like the officers assigned to this mission look for gang bangers and stop them question them to find out who they are. They then turn in the info at the conclusion of the mission to their supervisor.
Top Ten Target Mission: Units assigned to this mission usually concentrate on the Sunnyside Mall and the Broncho Billy Playlot looking for known troublemakers and see what they are up to, looking for reasons to make arrests.

Same person who reported about shots from Sunnyside/Hazel.... my boyfriend's car which was parked on Windsor near Sunnyside has the back window shot out.
This is getting fucking ridiculous.
Any updates on arrests or people taken in.
These animals are out of control.
I urge my neighbors NOT to get up and go to the window when they hear gunfire. I could see (from the vantage point of my couch where I stayed planted) people across the street run to their windows to see what was going on. I know its instinctual to want to see, but if bullets are flying, take cover!
just came home around 3:30 (saturday) and about 6 cops were blocking the road at broadway/sunnyside - anyone know what was happening?
As a community, we should organize a walk or event near Sunnyside and Hazel to draw more attention to the now regular gunfire and increased activity of gangbangers (red/black clothing) on the street.
On a related note, I urge all law abiding citizens in the area to own legally registered shotguns to protect their property/homes/families.

I'm afraid I must disagree with you, however, about the idea of owning guns. The world needs fewer guns, not more. Violence begets violence. There are other more positive things we can all do to protect ourselves and improve our neighborhood.

Do you know if there are any meetings scheduled for the neighborhood watch?
At this point, there is nothing scheduled, but there soon will be. I'm not one of the organizers, but I'm on the contact list. I think the best bet is to get on the email list to get more info.
It will be great to get more people involved.
Sarah has a good point. Guns can hurt people if they fall into the wrong hands. oh wait they already are in the wrong hands. The only hands that have guns in Chicago are the bad guys and the police. And the police can't be everywhere at once. I would like to be able to take some responsibility and protect my family when the $H!T hits the fan and not have to wait for the police to show up.
Anonymous, you have a right to you opinion and I respectfully disagree.
However, I think it's reckless to openly encourage your neighbors to go out and get guns. It's a personal choice and a huge responsibility, not a decision that anyone should make lightly.
I would not feel safer knowing that my neighbors were packing heat. Anyone can get hit by a stray bullet. Guns are not the long-term solution to violence on the street.
I think the Clarendon Park Block Club has it right: establish a strong, visible presence in the neighborhood, letting everyone know we're not going to let a bunch of guys with guns take over our block.
I agree that there are positive things to do to protect our neighborhood. But if someone enters my house or tries to hurt my family I'm not going to call the block club to come over and protect me. The block club is a great idea to bring change to the neighborhood, but until that change is here I'll sleep better at night knowing that I've got a way to even the odds a little bit. Plus I've got the element of surprise. This is Chicago, the bad guys think that they are the only ones with guns. But be responsible. Get a gun safe so the bad guys can't steal it. Get a trigger lock especially if you have children. Get trained and practice so you are accurate if God forbid you ever have to use it.
I have a friend who, like me, is a law abiding moderate Democrat. He is very much opposed to guns and makes comments about mine (which is legally owned and registerd). He lives in an area worse than Uptown and I always ask him if he would rather have a gun or not have one if a home invader enters his place. I would most certainly rather have one. What are you going to do if one of these psychopaths enters your place? Reason with them? Pepper spray? The point being, I would never take it outside of my door, but I am more than prepared to use it if someone breaks in. I am not advocating that everyone should have one (I know my wife would never even consider using it).
