If This is Your Volkswagon

It looks different than it did when you last saw it. Parked on Wilson
near Beacon it was the victim of a hit and run in an Astro Van license
plate 7129508, piloted by a group of very drunk Hispanics. I called it
in to 911 as did the other witnesses and waited 45 minutes for the
police who never came. Sorry about your luck.

That was really nice that you waited! I called CPD at least 7 times this weekend ( for drug dealing, gambling and gang banging) and they NEVER showed up either!
I feel so bad for whomever that car belongs to!!

Great Job!!! I hope that someone left a note on the car in case the owner does not check this website. Who knows if the police will even document the information.

just because you don't see the police doesn't mean that they are not there.

I hate this neighborhood. There was a shooting early 7/26 at 2:13am and no one has reported anything about it.

I'm moving out of this fucking place after 3 years.

Weird how different the police response is in different areas of Uptown. I saw two guys break the windows of a parked car on my street Saturday night, called 911, the cops came out and interviewed me and caught the guys based on my description.

They said the State's Attorney may press felony charges (not sure on what basis). The guys who broke the windows weren't even from Uptown. I heard them talking because they didn't know I could see and hear them from my window. They didn't know any of the street names or directions.

Ya, we saw this car on Wilson, driving home this weekend. Pretty shocking actually - looked like a prop out of a movie. The car was almost gutted. How could the offender get up so much speed just a short distance from the stop sign?
Obviously, if anything, they accelerated when they past the stop sign.

We heard the unmistakable crunch and looked out our window but were too late to see who was responsible. Nice job who ever got the plates.

Can you ask for a month to month lease due to an increase in crime? It's time for me to renew and I don't want to sign on for another full year of cops and robbers.

My car got beaned just like that in February. Make sure you have good insurance.

i'm not making any excuses for the cops or uptown.... but i just wanted to point out that i've seen the same type of thing happen before in lakeview ala drunk ass cubs fans. this is not a crime limited to our neck of the woods.

then move back to lakeview and see if someone cares enough to blog with a pic and info about it.

hope in uptown said...

Several people in my building (near Montrose/Malden)
have had their windows bashed out, but thugs.

Apparently, you can't park on a major street.

We need to have 'our finger on the 911 trigger', like these disgusting scum have their fingers on guns, or cans of spray paint......

Astro Van + Mexicans? = Deportation Time

don't just leave a note when you witness this - leave your contact info if you can. I had this happen to me - a neighbor left a note after my car was hit with the description of the car and license plate #. The police said I could file a report but they couldn't do anything without a witness.

This kind of behaviour does occur in all 'hoods, not just Uptown. But it is amazingly cool that we have bloggers and neighbors who care enough to do this for us! I don't know about the other areas, but this is a great reason for me to be as hopeful and optimistic about Uptown's future.

Sunny dispositions are nice, but keeping an eye out and reporting everything suspicious is a great idea, too!

Also, as they have said, police often send plain clothed officers to the scenes because they have to witness the crime and it is much better then they do, so don't assume they never show up. It ain't Law & Order where a blue and white with sirens blazing has to be on the beat every time, like the detective at this week's meeting said, yo!
